conferences

From libertarian dream to oppressive nightmare -- or the critique of the both?

I have been participating at the Critique, Democracy and Philosophy in the 21st century (CDP21) conference organised by the Department of Informatics and Media of the Uppsala University. As Mathias Klang (@klang67) notes in Twitter, the conference is not very techie. It is more about society than about ICTs.

Purposes of (archaelogical) linked data(?)

One of the interesting issues raised in the discussions of the data track at this year's CAA 2012 conference in Southampton is the question of teh purpose of the Linked Data. The purpose in the sense that whether Linked Data should be opened on the premises of its creators or users. @kidehen was kind enough to underline in Twitter (once I posed this rhetorical question) that "#LinkedData == Open Data Access, Connectivity, and Representation.

Seeking for information (use)

I have been participating in Information seeking in context (ISIC) 2008 since yesterday morning. The different papers by the nicely small and compact community of researchers interested in information behaviour have been very insightful in their analysis of different aspects of information seeking and use.

Creating knowledge in various (digital) environments

After arriving from Lund last evening I have been participating in the Creating Knowledge V conference in Åbo. There has been several interesting presentations resonating closely with my ongoing projects. Annemaree Lloyd talked about her studies on information practices in workplace contexts, and highlighted several interesting aspects, which I have been looking at while studying information work in different contexts.

Library 2.0 symposium

Our symposium on library 2.0 - a new participatory context? took place almost a three weeks ago, but perhaps this is a good interval to reflect the event. As mentioned in the official symposium and research project web site, all went smoothly and we had, in my opinion, productive 24 hours with a number of inspiring and thoughtprovoking presentations.
